“The world sends us garbage. We send back music”

Part of the goal of the MIC Trumpets blog is to share music-related media and resources with my studio. Please consider sharing these posts with your trumpeter as you see fit.

The video below is about a program in a small village in Paraguay that uses landfill to create musical instruments so that children can have access to music education. Click here for more information as it appeared in the Dec. 11th, 2012 edition of Time NewsFeed.

Congrats Michael!

MIC trumpet student Michael Werner auditioned for 2013 Chicago Youth in Music Festival and was one of only two high school age trumpeters accepted (click here for more info). He has been playing major orchestral repertoire with members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has been invited to participate in a reading session in collaboration with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (more info here) on Wednesday Jan 30th at the Benito Juarez Community Academy Performing Arts Center in Chicago. He has been selected to play 1st trumpet on Rimsky Korsakov’s Cappricio Espagnol under the direction of YOA Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto. The 2013 Youth in Music Festival is in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and the Music Institute of Chicago. Congrats Michael!
